I created a model for a one-piece design using black polyester wire-edged ribbon and straight pins, and made a piece of stainless steel lace based on the dimensions of the black ribbon.  Much to my surprise, I could not duplicate the black ribbon model with the stainless steel lace.  I just could not follow the pattern.  Shocked, it left me playing directly with the lace and the long loose wire ends, creating a completely new and different form.  I no longer design whole models before making lace.
